Preventive medical care is the key to keeping your pets healthy and happy. Vaccinating your pet against disease is of utmost importance. It's quick and painless, too!
Vaccines are inactive or altered live disease agents injected under the skin of the animal. Most pets do not even notice the poke. Vaccines ignite the immune system to produce protective responses specific to that disease. Many of our vaccinations are combinations protecting your pet against multiple diseases.
At your pet's physical examination, the veterinarian will recommend the appropriate vaccinations based on the environment and lifestyle of the pet.
Are Vaccinations Safe for Pets?
This is a very common question and the answer is YES!
Most pets respond well but, as with human medicine and vaccines, there are some risks. The most common side effects of vaccination are lethargy or a decrease in appetite. These symptoms usually do not last long, 1-2 days. No treatment is necessary.
More serious side effects such as vomiting, diarrhea, itching, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or extremities and hives are rare allergic reactions that can occur. In this case, please call our office 517-543-6101 or an emergency clinic.
