Apple Grove Veterinary Care is a full service animal hospital specializing in the care of dogs, cats, cows, horses, alpacas, goats, sheep and more! We are privately owned which allows for exceptional care that is customized to your pets’ and farms’ individual needs.

Our mission is to provide every patient with optimum health and wellness by practicing and providing progressive, compassionate, and high quality veterinary care through the educational enhancement of our clients and ourselves.

Dr. Lynn WeaverLynn C. Weaver, DVM

Practice Owner & Veterinarian
Dr. Weaver has 30 years of experience caring for the dogs, cats, horses, cows, sheep, goats, alpacas and more of Charlotte and our surrounding communities. He has a true passion for veterinary medicine and has just as much fun caring for a 1000 pound cow as he does a 3 pound puppy! His compassionate and humorous nature make each visit with Dr. Weaver an enjoyable one.

In 1978, Dr. Weaver received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State University. Following his graduation, Dr. Weaver returned home to Charlotte and took an Associate Veterinarian position in Mixed Animal Practice.

In 1984, Dr. Weaver started Weaver Veterinary Service. In 1987, the practice took on the name Old Orchard Veterinary Service and through a reorganization in 2005 became Apple Grove Veterinary Care all within the same location. The building which houses Apple Grove Veterinary Care was originally a Cider Mill surrounded by an apple orchard and through many remodeling & additions over the years has become a full service animal hospital.

In his years of practicing Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Weaver has had 2 partners Dr. William Watson and Dr. Jospeh Parr and several associates including Dr. Larry Judge, Dr. Daniel Grentz, Dr. Nicole Schultz and Dr. Jamie Snow as well as numerous veterinary students. Two of which are Erin K. Howard & Rachel L. Morris, Dr. Weaver’s current Associate Veterinarians. Over the past 30 years, Dr. Weaver has been committed to quality compassionate Veterinary Care and will continue to do so.

In addition to serving the animals of our community, Dr. Weaver also aids in educating future veterinarians. In recognition of established distinction in the science and practice of veterinary medicine, Dr. Weaver was appointed Assistant Adjunct Professor in 1995 for the Department of Large Animal Clinic Sciences at Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. You will often see veterinary students riding along with Dr. Weaver to farm calls or shadowing in the clinic.

The green pastures of the golf courses attract Dr. Weaver is his spare time. He also enjoys perfecting his culinary skills preparing tasty food creations for family and on special occasions for the staff of Apple Grove. He & his wife Judy enjoy golfing, traveling and spending time with family. They have a son & daughter-in law and a daughter & son-law, two grand’puppies’, a 3 year old granddaughter, Chloe and 8 month old grandson, Charlie!   Chloe & Charlie just love coming to visit their "PaPa" at the vet clinic!

Erin K. Howard, DVMDr. Howard

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Erin K. Howard performs Large & Small Animal Medicine, Surgery and  Dentistry.  Dr. Howard’s professional skills and compasionate demeanor are a valuable addition to our practice and she contributes greatly to our dedication to provide you with the very best veterinary care. She especially enjoys small animal rehabilitation, post-orthopedic procedures, senior pet health, dairy reporduction and equine preventative medicine.

 

Dr. Howard grew up locally in Eaton Rapids, MI and is a familiar face at Apple Grove Veterinary Care.  She began working for Apple Grove Veterinary Care while doing undergraduate studies at Michigan State University.  In 2004, she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science with an emphasis in dairy reproduction & nutrition.  Subsequently she went on to attend the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University earning her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2009.  

 

During Veterinary School, she worked for the Michigan Milk Producers Association creating and conducting dairy surveys to find a common link in dairy operations production & low somatic cell count milk.  Erin went on to work within the Food Animal Committee of the Michigan Veterinary Medical Associate developing a comprehensive medical record protocol for Food Animal Practice.  She also worked extensively with the Summer Food Systems Fellowship Program at MSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine.  She even had the distinguished honor of getting a research paper published in a peer review journal, Journal of Vet Med Education.  We are all so happy that Erin chose to further her veterinary career at Apple Grove Veterinary Care!

Dr. Howard and her husband Jeremy have a 9 year old dog Bailey and a 6 year old blind cat Stevie, two medical cases in themselves!  She enjoys camping, canoeing, biking, gardening and reading. They welcomed baby boy Connor Brennan on August 25, 2011!

Rachel L. Morris, DVM

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Rachel L. Morris performs Large & Small Animal Medicine, Surgery and Dentistry.  Dr. Morris is a veterinarian with a cheerful andDr. Morris  compassionate personality who emphasizes client education, diagnostics, and practical treatment. She is a very personable and intelligent individual excited to meet the clients of Apple Grove Veterinary Care and help you care for your beloved companion(s). 

 

Dr. Rachel L. Morris grew up locally in Eaton Rapids, MI.  After graduating from Eaton Rapids High School she attended Michigan State University, where she achieved a Bachelor’s of Science in Animal Science in 2005 dedicating her senior thesis on the value of feeding cellulase to horses to improve digestion.  She subsequently obtained her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 2009.  Dr. Morris has been a familiar face around our clinic on and off since 2001 obtaining a lot of pre-veterinary experence here with Dr. Weaver. 

 

During Veterinary School, she worked to organize the Miracle of Life Exhibit at the Michigan State Fair, did research on hairy heel warts in feedlot cattle among many other electives.  Most impressively, Dr. Morris dedicated herself to veterinary mission work, traveling to Africa on two separate occasions, first to South Africa and 2 years later to Ethiopia.  Her veterinary work in Africa involved Equine & Goat Projects where she helped impoverished people care for their animals which often are their sole source of livelihood.  She also conducted spay & neuter surgery clinics.

 

When an a position opened in July of 2009 at Apple Grove Veterinary Care, Dr. Weaver sought out the professional skills of Dr. Morris and she gladly accepted. 

 

Dr. Morris is married to husband Ivan, who is currently in medical school at Michigan State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine.  She enjoys many hobbies such as trail riding, hiking, camping and church activities.

Dr. JoDell Walker

JoDell S. Walker, DVM

Part-time Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Walker performs Small & Large Animal Surgery, Medicine and Dentistry.  She grew up just outside of Portland, Oregon.  After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science from Oregon State University in 2006, she went on to earn her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Oregon State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2011.

Dr. Walker recently moved to the Battle Creek area with her husband and son.  During veterinary school she was co-president of her class, as well as an active member of the Agriculture Animal Club, Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association, and Student Chapter of the American Association of Equine Practitioners.  She volunteered for Rural Area Veterinary Services offering spay, neuter and preventive health services to rural parts of Nevada.  She also performed castration and dental services for several rescue horse clinics in Washington.

Her areas of interest includ small animal nutrition and weight loss, small ruminant herd health, and equine dentistry, nutrition and laminitis management. 

Dr. Walker's husband Mike, is a dairy veterinarian that provides services to all of southwest Michigan.  They have a cat named Wyatt, and are looking forward to owning a few horses in the near future.  In her free time she enjoys running, gardening, cooking and snowboarding.

Emily Haygood - Practice Manager
Emily grew up in Charlotte and attended Michigan State University where she completed her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Marketing from the Eli Broad College of Business in 2002.  After graduation, Emily & her husband Herb, traveled the world, including Denver (CO), Kansas City (MO), Montreal (Canada), Glasgow (Scotland, UK), Tampa (FL) and more for several years while he pursued his dream of playing professional football. He is now an on the go college football coach.  She and Herb have been married for 8 years.

At Apple Grove, Emily has a passion for finding new and creative ways to help educate pet owners.  She also enjoys organizing the many events at Apple Grove such as Pet Photos with Santa, Community Youth Day, Heartworm Awareness, Equine Seminars and much more!  She is currently studying to become a Certified Veterinary Practice Manager.

When Emily & her husband are not actively spoiling Rocky, their adored Yorkie with an attitude, time is spent cheering on the Michigan State Spartans and working on their non-profit organization, the Herb Haygood Off Season Skills Camp. Emily also enjoys spending time with family, spoiling her niece, traveling, shoe-shopping, scrapbooking, crocheting, taking photographs, pedicures, kick-boxing, and sewing “Woof Weaves” doggie scarves.

Christie Buchholz, LVT - Head LVT & Co-ManagerChriste LVT, Hally & Greta
Christie started working as a licesed veterinary technician at Apple Grove Veterinary Care after graduating from MSU with a Bachelor of Science in 2006. Christie’s special interests at work include anesthesia, dental cleanings and any large animal work.

Christie currently resides in Charlotte, but is originally from Olivet. Christie enjoys riding her horses, working in her flower gardens, going for walks, snowmobiling, spending time with family and friends. She also enjoys spending time helping her husband, Brad, while working on his family’s cash crop farm. Christie and Brad welcomed their first baby girl, Claire in July 2011! 

Christie has a 4 year old Chesapeake Bay Retriever/Labrador dog named Hally, a Boxer puppy named Greta, a cat named Holstein, and 2 horses, Charlie and Wyley.  Christie, Greta and Holstein participate in Mid-Michigan Pet Therapy. Nicole Fowlkes, LVT & her gecko - Tango

Nicole Fowlkes, LVT

Nicole is a small animal & emergency LVT.  She grew up in Ann Arbor, MI where she went to high school. She attended Michigan State University for veterinary technology and received Bachelor of Science degree in 2010.

Nicole returned to her hometown of Ann Arbor where she worked midnights as an emergency LVT.  After one year she decided she missed the Lansing area and moved back to join the Apple Grove team where she is very happy!

Nicole lives in the Lansing area with her two cats Binks and Lemmy and a Leopard Gecko, Tango.  She's hoping for a dog in the future.  She enjoys movies, spending time with friends and family, fishing, camping, hiking and singing.  If you have any questions regarding emergencies or exotic pets, feel free to e-mail Nicole info@applegrovevet.com.

Keshia Bupp , LVT - Full-time LVT

Help us welcome our newest additon!  Keshia graduated from Baker College of Muskegon with an Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology and is licensed by the State of Michigan and the National Board of Veterinary Technicians.  She joined our team with her warm and compassionate attitude in July 2010.

Keshia grew up in Stanton, MI.  She re-located to Charlotte in order to join the Apple Grove Team!  She enjoys reading, exploring her new surrondings, playing with her two cats Bella & Lucky.  Her favorite thing to do is spend time with family & friends.

Alexandrea Flanders, LVT - Part-time LVT Alex & Tony the horse

Alex joined the Apple Grove Team in the fall of 2008! She graduated from Baker College's Veterinary Technician Program with an Associates Degree in Animal Science and is licensed by the State of Michigan as a Veterinary Technician.

Alex grew up in Battle Creek, MI and now resides in Marengo Township with her husband Jason. She participated in 4-H for over 13 years showing horses. Alex loves to help her husband on the farm in the summer bailing hay and straw.  She still enjoys attending the Marshall Fair every year with her horses. She has two dogs, Leroy an English Springer Spaniel, and Quigley a Blue Heeler. Her two horses are, Buttons a 22 year old P.O.A., and Jersey a 9 year old Quarter Horse. 

Congratulations are in order for Alex & her husband who welcomed their 2nd baby girl, Aubrey Lynn, October 29th, 2010.  The new baby joins her adorable sister, Riley Jean born August 2009.  Alex returned from leave in May 2011 to work part-time. We love having her back at Apple Grove!

Jeff Granger - Head Veterinary Assistant
Jeff is a Charlotte native and has been working with our veterinary team for over 16 years. He has a special talent working with all species of animals, from dogs and cats to horses and cows.

He resides on his family farm where he raises cattle, poultry and rabbits. He donates much of his spare time to helping the youth of our community in the Eaton County 4-H. Jeff enjoys breeding and competing in Rabbit Exhibitions all around the country. 

Jeff is our "go-to guy" with all questions poultry and rabbits! He also sells farm raised fresh eggs by the dozen, for more info just ask for Jeff!

Laura Coats - Client Care Specialist
Laura has been working for Apple Grove since April of 2005. Many of you may know her Laura & Shortyfriendly face from her 10 years of service at Eaton Federal Savings Bank in Charlotte. She keeps very busy with her family including husband Ken, niece Asia, son Cole and pets, Shorty (The Fat Dog), Mau Mau (The Crazy White Cat), Cheese & Quackers (The Ducks) and an assortment of chickens.

She and Ken have a farm out in the country. Together with Ken’s parents they raise cattle and crops. She enjoys the outdoors, has a large vegetable garden along with several flower beds. She likes to hunt, fish, go for walks, bike rides, shoot in archery tournaments and drive the Polaris Ranger around their many acres. Son, Cole also enjoys all of these activities with her, along with baseball practice, swimming lessons, 4-H and street hockey. In the summer time she does a lot of canning/freezing vegetables & fruits. In the winter she enjoys downhill skiing, spending time with her family, and relaxing from the busy summer!!

Shelby Williams - Veterinary Assistant
Shelby is a graduate of Olivet High School and is now attending Michigan State Universtiy studying business & marketing.  She joined the Apple Grove team in March 2008 as a co-op student and is now a part-time veterinary assistant. 

Shelby enjoys competing in rodeos and riding her horses, KC, Ellie and Shorty. She also enjoys learing to play the guitar, baking, scrapbooking, taking pictures, and hanging out with friends.  In the summer of 2008 she embraced her entreprenuership spirit and started a jewelry & purse business called "Rowels & Rhinestones" with current goals of expanding into a western store.  She has a Border Collie/Australian Shepard named Jessie.

Brooke Wilder - Veterinary Assistant

Brooke is a Senior at Charlotte High School.  She began job-shadowing at Apple Grove in the Fall of 2009.  In April 2010, Brooke was hired as a part-time veterinary assistant.  In October 2010, she began participating in the Co-op program at Apple Grove.  She is very dedicated and excited to learn all about the field of veterinary medicine.

She hopes to become a Veterinarian or Service Dog Trainer in the future.

Grandpa WeaverCharlie Weaver (AKA: Grandpa)
Charlie (AKA: Grandpa) is a very familiar face around Apple Grove Veterinary Care and can be seen sipping coffee, grooming the grass, and doing other handyman specials! He is Dr. Weaver's father. We love Charlie! He expects to be welcomed with a kiss!

OPAL - Public Relations Specialist
Opal Jeanne Weaver is a Bichon Frise belonging to Dr. Weaver and his wife, Judy. Or, should we say Dr. Weaver and his wife belong to Opal!

Opal is the offspring of Gidget Hampton, a patient of Apple Grove Veterinary Care. She is 5 years old and spent her puppyhood growing up under the front desks and on the counters of Apple Grove. In her spare time, Opal enjoys riding to farm calls, greeting clients, schmoozing for treats and extra love, as well as sharing desk chairs, keyboards and paperwork! She is an excellent paper weight, but needs work on her typing skills!
